We are honored to be the stewards of land with a rich history. Our farm is located in Amherst, VA and is home to the historic Amherst Milling Company building, icehouse, 8-suite Airbnb Farmhouse, 2-acre Certified Naturally Grown market garden, as well as an apiary, pastures and around 60 acres of pristine forest.

The first documented milling at this site occurred in the late 1700s and the first permanent structure built for milling here was constructed in 1815. That original mill was continuously modified and adapted as needed until 1940, when it burned down. Over the next two years, the building you see today was built and it has been added to over the years as needs and technology evolved.

The mill would process multiple varieties of grain from local farmers, and sold chickens, animal feed, plants, seeds and other such items. The mill became an unofficial community meeting spot where locals would stop by to purchase dry goods or grab an ice cold watermelon from the icehouse and talk about the latest news.

The Icehouse was originally a major part of the operation here for many years, using well water and liquid ammonia to freeze blocks of ice, which were loaded onto train cars passing by and taken to larger cities like Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Richmond.

Overseeing this property for the final approximate 40 years was Bill Wydner. Bill and his family lived in the brick house on top of the hill that now serves as our Airbnb and overlooks the mill and farm.

Over the years, this property has adapted to the changing times and we are thrilled to be a part of the next chapter in its history.
